Description

The Bell Super DH MIPS helmet not only looks great but suits a wide variety of riding styles. More importantly, it is absolutely brimming with safety features.

Who's this item for: Riders chasing a new trail helmet but are after something they can convert into a full face. DH rated, this helmet is perfect for riders who hit up the bike park or DH races a few times a year but don't want to own more than one helmet.

Construction: The Bell Super DH features something called 'progressive layering'. Bell defines that as: "The process of engineering a helmet liner with variable EPS foam densities to better manage the transfer of energies after some impacts". The 'fusion in-mould polycarbonate shell' is a process that was pioneered by Bell. This process bonds the helmets outer shell to the EPS foam liner, the result is a sturdier helmet. The biggest feature of the Super DH is the removable chin bar. Did we mention you don't need any tools to install or remove it? How good is that!

Rotational liner: MIPS Spherical is used in the Bell Super DH. This more advanced version of MIPS enhances the helmets ability to address rotational impacts as well as high and low-speed impacts. This more comprehensive protection also allowed Bell to better design the Super DH's ventilation.

Straps: Standard webbing straps with a Fidlock buckle.

Retention System: Bell calls the retention system 'Float Fit DH'. This system allows a comfortable, secure fit that is easy to find via an easy to turn rubber over-moulded dial.

Ventilation: This convertible helmet features intake ports on the brow of the helmet to allow cool air in, through the air channel matrix and out the rear of the helmet. This equates to full-head ventilation. In total there a whopping 19 vents in the Bell Super DH. With 6 of them being featured on the front of the helmet as intake vents- 2 brow, 4 chin bar.

Padding: The Bell Super DH uses Bells own 'sweat guide pad design' which pulls moisture away from the brow pad and eyewear area. Their X-Static padding uses a quick-drying material that has been woven with real silver fibres. These silver fibres inhibit the growth of bacteria and fungi which can cause odours.

Weight: At a minuscule 850-grams (SIZE M) this is a featherweight full face.

Standout features: MIPS Spherical is the lastest and most advanced rotational impact protection system out there. There is also an adjustable visor and a snap-in camera mount to capture your shred-sesh.

Pros: Rated to ASTM F1952-00 (DOWNHILL) and ASTM F2032-06 (BMX). Great ventilation, MIPS Spherical, good retention system.

Cons: Although this helmet is DH rated the MTBA guidelines state that it is not suitable for use in DH racing events in Australia. You'll need a dedicated full-face helmet for that.

    Hero in a half-shell

This helmet replaces my 6D halfshell I've been running for a number of years now. Like the 6D, this Super DH with it's new MIPS is silent, unlike the earlier slip-plane style MIPS that would jiggle and squeek. I've haven't ridden with the chin-bar yet, but I've found that it breaths well and is comfortable. The sizing seems accurate and I love the magnetic clip. Only downside is that the visor could maybe extend down a little lower for late arvo rides, but that is a very minor concern. Loving this helmet.

    Really solid helmet

I previously owned a Super 2R and after crashing hard on the noggin and recovering from concussion I wanted something a bit bigger and sturdier.

The helmet certainly lives up to its name, it feels really solid but has a very airy feel to it. Despite being heavier than my last helmet - and bigger - it felt more comfortable and like I was getting better air flow.

It's not a head-hugging-super-secure feeling helmet like a dedicated DH full face, but it's lighter and feels just as robust. Great for summer rides . The dial adjust is also a handy feature, much easier than changing out pads.

Without the chin bar it is a rather bulky looking open face helmet, the front of the helmet sits a way out from your forehead, as do the sides of the helmet (might look a tad dorky if you've got a narrow-ish head like me), but it gives good protection as it wraps around nicely.

Overall it's a great helmet and feels very sturdy, definitely has my confidence.

    Cool and comfortable

This helmet is fantastic, it is cool on a hot day, doesn't feel heavy at all and is very comfortable. Seriously you don't notice the weight at all. Full face is definitely the future for trail and enduro. Would buy again.

Also MTB direct is the best thing to happen to cycling in Australia, forget about ordering anything from overseas. These guys have more gear in stock and you are supporting a local company that will be around for much longer.

    Awesome helmet!

Really comfy helmet. I mainly use it in open face mode but lately have been riding some spicier tracks and converted it to full face. It's comfortable in both modes. Brow padding works well to direct sweat away from eyes. The Mips interface is spot on and doesn't cause any discomfort. Converts fairly easily. Highly recommend this helmet.
